releases overview

al-pha-x
the british musician and producer declan flynn is behind the tricky name of al-pha-x. after graduating from goldsmith college in music and composition in 1991, flynn started playing in numerous bands. besides singing and playing guitar, piano and keyboards, he developed a passion for new music technologies. although he was still composing for classical ensembles and film soundtracks, he worked hard in translating his traditional skills into the electronic genre. with his compositions “at dawn” and ”sound-escape” (1996) he achieved an organic combination of acoustic and electronic instruments. these tracks were the starting point for his engagement in the creation of high quality experimental dance music. while working as a songwriter and producer for acts like total head control and flicka, declan flynn still managed to cultivate his roots as a musician. playing in different bands, he became familiar with new instruments and styles such as irish folk, jazz, indie, triphop, r&b, pop, and exotic genres like bangra beat or east european music alike. apart from the conventional instruments, his travels through south america, europe and east asia lead him to acquire a variety of singing techniques and to discover exotic instruments such as the thai flute, percussions, ping and sing for his work.

complex, expressionistic soundscapes are declan’s trademark ever since. in a very emotional way, he combines the impressions of his travels with the different influences of his musical career. several contributions to compilations and a few album releases in great britain show the expressiveness of his tracks.

ma faiza
the “ma faiza project” is a partnership of ma faiza and veet sandeh. having both spent many years in india, their paths crossed musically whilst performing together in goa. with a great mutual respect for each others musical vibration, they joined their talents to develop a new sound. both of them have fresh, new ideas on making music which encompasses the roots of indian sounds, with acoustic instruments scored to an orchestral context, in an attempt to translate the essence of indian music into the 21st century expression of electronica. the “ma faiza project” touches the heart of the listener, transcending any artificialness that is found too often in electronic music, allowing an experience of pure emotion and sensuality. the innocence of this partnership of musical expression has a magical quality. for almost a decade ma faiza has been joining the global club- and festival-scene with her music mix of indian-fusion, ambient and psychedelica. born in africa and raised in london the djane, artist and producer is a real global player. apart from dj-ing internationally, she also worked as head of a & r for masti music, india, and was part of the editing team for mushroom magazine international in germany. by distributing indian music to london, she was partly responsible for the growing worldmusic influence in electronic music. in 2003 she met the global gypsies in india and took them on a small tour including her dj-ing with their live performances. with them, and especially with band-member veet sandeh, she developed a very strong connection which resulted in a wonderful musical collaboration. with veet’s help ma faiza combined the gypsies-melange of spanish and indian sounds with her electronica. website
